About the Members
So the band, Twenty One Pilots, was created by high schoolers Tyler Joseph, who is the lead singer, and his friends and former members, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih. The band was created in 2009 and the two members, Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, left two years after in 2011. Replacing the two is the new drummer Josh Dun while Tyler Joseph is still the lead singer and keyboardist.
Josh Dun
Josh Dun, who is the drummer, was born on June 18, 1988 in the city of Columbus, Ohio. Growing up, Josh Dun taught himself how to play the drums and was not allowed to listen to music, so once a week he would sneek to the music store and listen to music. He worked in a Guitar Center music store for three years with former drummer of Twenty One Pilots, Chris Salih. Josh first joined a band called House of Heroes when their lead drummer took a break to spend time with his family. When the lead drummer returned from his break, Josh left and was invited to a Twenty One Pilot show, which at the time was a trio. Soon after the show, Josh met the lead singer Tyler Joseph and they quickly became close friends and spent a lot of time together. Within about a year the other two members who were part of the band left due to busy schedules. Josh took the opportunity to be in the band and that started it all. Josh quit his job at Guitar Center to play in a show that they had and after the show he became the leading drummer for the band.
Tyler Joseph
Tyler Joseph, the lead singer of the band, was born on December 1st, 1988 also in the city of Columbus, Ohio. Tyler was first interested in baseball where he led his team to second place in an interstate championship, he was also offered a scholarship for baseball, but he turned down the opportunity due to his growing passion towards music. Tyler had a friend who was a song writer, his friend would help him begin his journey to being a lead singer and song writer. When Tyler found an abandoned keyboard in his closet which his mother gave him, he started to mimic the sounds that he heard from the radio and began to write his own songs. Like Josh, Tyler was also a self taught mucisian.
